Non-immigrant Visas:
Non-immigrant visas, or temporary visas, are for people who are planning to visit the United States as tourists, as students, for business, on cultural exchange programs, or for medical purposes. The visa classifies the visit as business, tourism, etc. and each visaclassification has its own requirements regarding how long a person can stay in the U.S. and what activities are allowed. It is sometimes possible for someone who is in the U.S. in one non-immigrant visa category to change to a different one. This is called a “change of status” and requires that an application be filed and approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
